6:30 p.m.: The meeting was called to order and President-Elect Cindy Overton lead the group in taking the Pledge of Allegiance.  She welcomed guests and introduced a special guest, Linda Richardson one of the BPW National Career Advancement Scholarship recipients from Georgia.  She then started a round of introductions for all members and guests and suggested/reiterated that, next time, we all give a little something “more” in our introductions: perhaps more about our businesses, needs and leads, referrals, what we do, and/or what brought us to BPW.

6:45 p.m.: President-Elect Overton introduced Dr. Todd Shinholster, Director of Language and Cross Cultural Programs at Kennesaw State University, who spoke to us about Multi-National/Cross Cultural Issues in the Workplace (a.k.a. Cultural Consciousness).

7:30 p.m.: President-Elect Overton thanked our guest speaker and called our Business Meeting to order.

 

July Meeting Minutes

 

President-Elect Overton moved that the July meeting minutes be approved as written.  The motion was seconded by Rita Gray and approved by the members.

 

Treasurers Report

 

Rebecca Smith reported that our current balance is $294.94.

Legislative: Rita Bauer provided the club with the highlights from the BPW legislative update (available on line).

Newsletter: Chair could not attend meeting.

Ways & Means: No Report.  Chair to be reassigned?

Hospitality: Reminder to please RSVP for meetings to assure that the Hospitality Committee can order enough food to feed everyone!

Scrapbook: President-Elect Overton asked for volunteers to keep this year’s scrapbook.

Item 1: Moved, seconded, and passed that the following statement (amended from the original during discussion) serve as the North Fulton BPW Mission Statement: (Rita Gray and Rebecca Smith)
The mission of the North Fulton Business & Professional Women is to provide its members with personal and professional development opportunities through education, networking, and mentoring in the social environment of monthly meetings. We encourage our members to be politically aware of and to advocate for issues that improve the lives of working women at local, state, and national levels. Our organization works to recruit individuals from diverse backgrounds, who want to be active participants in our club.

Item 2: Rita Gray provided an update/summary on the BPW National Conference

Item 3: Barbara Siebert provided an update on the “White Elephant” Sale.  Discussion focused on:

The name of the sale (White Elephant is not as “appealing” as Autumn Fest or Fair or Bazaar).

The date of the sale (October or November – November 12 gives us time to prepare; do we need a rain date?)

Debby Sundal, Rita Bauer, and Joan McCall volunteered to assist in organizing this event.

Item 4: Christy Nilsson gave us an update on the next meeting/event at the Chattahoochie Nature Center.

Item 5: Cindy Overton gave us a review of the Golden Circle Decathalon and recommended that, at our next meeting, we select an “event” from those provided and work within committees to determine which activities we can/will complete to gather sufficient points within that “event.”

Item 6: Karen Bershad gave an overview of and suggestions for the new “Oportunity” Table.

 

New Business

There was no new business.

 

Announcements

Rita Gray announced that Skip Gray has entered NFBPW in the Old Soldier’s Day Parade.  She asked that anyone interested in participating see her after the meeting.

Ongoing Business:

Members who have not yet completed the Membership Survey should do so.

Members should continue to generate ideas on how we might fund or get more membership applications printed up.

We need volunteers to help maintain the NFBPW web site.

The Issues Committee will continue to gather suggestions/proposals from club members regarding projects or charitable acts that we could perform during the 2005-2006 year.  Please send your proposals to scohron@integritybank.com
