Our naturalist guide, Joanie Atkinson, spoke to us about the Nature Center and the animals and birds in the area. She took us to the River Boardwalk and wetlands. There we saw a blue heron! |
| Joanie told us about the different sounds that tree frogs make and gave us some demonstrations on her handy sound machine. From left to right are Mark Hall, Barb Siebert, Cindy Overton, Mike Siebert, Charlie Overton, Joanie, and Rita Bauer. Tree frogs are Charlie Overton's favorite! | ![]() |

The wetlands water levels are affected by two bordering rivers. Although the water is low, Joanie assured us that the differences in the water level do not adversely affect the animals that live there. |
|
Local flora from the Nature Center. There were numerous flowers and plants throughout our nature walk with lots of colors. |

Our hostess with the mostest! Christie Nilsson told us about the wonderful activities and features of the Nature Center. She took us into the Discovery Center where we viewed live turtles, animal bones, horns, and fur and other interactive natural science exhibits. |
|
Joanie brought out a great horned owl who was injured and brought to the Nature Center. Joanie told us that the animal handlers did not give names to the wild animals so we can all keep in mind that they are truly wild animals and not pets.
