2001-2002

Since the leadership was transferred from the North Fulton area, this local BPW organization had stopped meeting and had only one member on the National roster by year-end 2001.

Long time BPW member Rita Gray moved to the area and with the help of Past State Presidents Joan Teach and Cathi Stockton and BPW/GA President Toni Davis, Rita began the task of revitalizing the organization. Past BPW members, business contacts, and other women who had expressed an interest in BPW were contacted. The organizing group began to meet in February 2002, and monthly meetings were held. By May 31, 2002, three new members were on the roster and a permanent meeting place was established at Integrity Bank in Alpharetta.

With the enthusiasm of these new members and additional prospective members, the local organization entered the 2002-2003 BPW year with high expectations.

Issues Management Project – Women Veterans was chosen as the project for the year.  The local organization through fund raising efforts donated more than $1,000 to the Women Veterans.  North Fulton also sponsored a woman and her children from the Family Haven Domestic Violence Shelter for Christmas.  We were able to fulfill their wish list and then some.

Special Events – In November, the organization held a Holiday Expo.  Members and guests were invited to rent a booth to showcase their business.  Twenty-eight booths with everything from handmade crafts, gift baskets, insurance services and real estate brokers were present.  Homemade chili was sold as well.  The proceeds from the booth rental & chili sales were donated to the Women Veterans.  This shall remain an annual event.

The Christmas Party was held at Croquette’s Steakhouse in Alpharetta.  Instead of exchanging gifts, the group adopted a family from the domestic violence shelter.  Members bought presents, or made cash contributions toward the presents for this family.

Installation of the 2004-2005 officers is still to be determined at our next meeting.
