Atlanta, GA - In an effort to address the financial challenges facing women,
Spelman College Center for Leadership and Civic Engagement, known as Spelman
LEADS, in partnership with the Business and Professional Women of Georgia,
will host "WOMENomics: Making Money, Creating Wealth" on April 1.
One of the first in a series of Spelman College 125th Anniversary events,
more than 400 hundred women are expected to attend the daylong conference to
obtain information and resources to help them secure equal pay and build
generational wealth. The featured keynote speaker will be Evelyn McMurphy,
former lieutenant governor of Massachusetts and founder of the Wage Project
Inc., a national organization to end wage discrimination against working
women." As we gather to celebrate Spelman's legacy of dynamic women, this is
also an opportunity to empower women with the tools and information to
change their present financial circumstances while securing a strong
economic future for themselves and their families," said Dr. Jane Smith,
executive director for Spelman LEADS.
Workshops topics will include interactive presentations on generational
wealth, budgeting and credit, homeownership, retirement planning and Social
Security, direct sales, planned giving, pay equity, financial condition and
entrepreneurship.
Held throughout the county by various local organizations in partnership
with state federations of Business and Professional Women/USA, WOMENomics is
a signature trademarked program designed by the Business and Professional
Women Foundation to address issues facing working women.
"Research indicates that women currently make 76.5 cents for every dollar
that every man earns. Combined with the fact that a vast majority of all
women will at some point in their lives will be completely responsible for
their own finances, we must begin now to close the wage gap as a step for
creating generational wealth," said Roslyn Ridgeway, president of Business
and Professional Women/USA.
Held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Camille Cosby Academic Center
Auditorium, the cost for this event is $20 for adults and free for students
with a valid student ID. Advance registration is encouraged by visiting
