President's Notes

What a great way to start our 2005-2006 year with Patricia Stallworth and our vision sharing. OYA! Don’t forget to use the hands. (For those of you who weren’t there, we’ll explain later.) I’m thrilled with the excitement that was generated at the meeting. Already we’re:

bullet

Creating a mission statement

bullet

Setting up an “opportunity table” for members to post business cards, brochures, information, and announcements

bullet

Developing a marketing piece for us to spread the good word about NFBPW

Thanks to all of you who participated and are working to help us build. We are on the move!

Warmly

Peg Titus-Hall

Editor's Notes

Sorry I was unable to make the last meeting. I have had to take things slow and easy. I am having some more medical problem and am getting ready for David’s return from Okinawa, Japan, where he has been for the past five years with the Air Force. He is home now and going back and forth to Warner Robbins to get his car and house hunting. He will be stationed in Warner Robbins. It is so great to have him this close again. He hasn’t been in Georgia since he graduated from High School in 1992 when he joined the Air Force.
We still need your feedback and anything you would like to put in the Newsletter. We would like to add pictures to the spotlight section. If you could send us a picture of you we would appreciate it. We still need information from you for that section. We will be distributing a form to complete, so you can be included in future “Spotlights.”

Empowering Women - July's Program

The speaker, for the July 7th meeting is Carla Kesterson, a Financial Advisor with Morgan Stanley. The topic is "Empowering Women to Learn Financial Thinking." Carla teaches women to act as the intelligent, capable, deserving adult women that they are, deserving of riches. She will give a few simple steps to take the emotion out of financial planning/investing.

Carla will build on Mark Hall’s presentation last spring on how "Smart Women Finish Rich." Carla’s focus will add needed tips concerning "Start Late, Finish Rich."

Next month we will have information from Rita and Skip Gray regarding the National Conference. We wish them a great time In Philadelphia.

Important Legislative Update from Rita Bauer, Legislative Chair
The United States House of Representatives introduced House Resolution (HR) 2876 - a bill to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA).

The current VAWA is set to expire in September 2005, unless reauthorized. The House bill encourages community collaboration on solutions for transitional, long term, and low income housing to prevent homelessness of victims of violence. It provides a new funding stream for sexual assault services, and provides grant programs for services to victims with disabilities and victims of abuse in later life.

In addition, it creates programs for violence prevention as well as assistance to children, teenagers, and young adults who experience violence. The healthcare provision focuses on improving identification and treatment of injuries from domestic and sexual violence.
