2005-2006 Officer Installation

The Installation Dinner was a delightful occasion. Our thanks to Toni Davis and Kathy Stockton for assisting in the ceremony, and to the members who filled in for our officers who were absent for business reasons.

Kathy took a number of great pictures with Peg Titus-Hall's Palm Pilot, since no one had brought a camera. The bad news is that Peg accidentally deleted the pictures when she synced her Palm Pilot with her computer. We plan to take a picture when we have all the officers present and add it to this newsletter. Sorry for the faupah!

Dear Friends and Associates,

It's only June and already I'm feeling overwhelmed. I'm excited by the potential of our group.

Thanks to those of you who responded to the Survey Monkey survey. I look forward to the responses from the rest of the members. I would like to report on the results at our June 2 meeting, so please make sure you complete the survey by May 31. It only takes a few minutes. Just click this survey link.

We are also looking forward to information and feedback for and on the newsletter. Please let us know how well we're serving you.

I'm really looking forward to our June meeting. I know I've spoken to and sent emails about clarifying our vision for 2005-2006. Our program with Patricia Stallworth will be focusing on our vision. I would appreciate all of you coming with your ideas and suggestions for bringing BPW, and in particular, NFBPW from the best kept secret in women's organizations to the premier women's organization.

Warmly,

Peg Titus-Hall

NFBPW at Taste of Alpharetta

Rita Bauer and Peg Titus-Hall set up a table at this year's Taste of Alpharetta. They handed out about 200+ NFBPW membership and 4ERA brochures to any and all women willing to take them. We had a great time and were excited about many of women who seem interested; at the very least, intrigued. Notice our new banner!

A special thanks go to Skip Gray and the VFW for sharing their booth at Taste of Alpharetta and giving space to spread the good word about NFBPW.

Legislative Hotline Outline

The 2005 Georgia Legislative Session is now over and your legislators are back in their home districts thinking about the 2006 session. The House had nearly 900 bills and 560 resolutions dropped for consideration, and the Senate over 350 bills and 540 resolutions. Click here for some highlights of the bills and resolutions signed or vetoed by the Governor this session.

These are just a few. Go to the Georgia General Assembly for a list of all bills and resolutions signed or vetoed by the Governor.

Remember, all legislation applies to all citizens, regardless of your race, gender, or age!

Member Spotlight - Pam Hughes

Pam has been a member of North Fulton BPW since 2004.  She and her husband Harvey Hughes have 2 children and 5 grandchildren.  She is originally from South Carolina moving to Georgia 2 years ago to be with her children and grandchildren.  Pam has been in banking for over 25 years.  She works as a customer service representative for Integrity Bank.  Pam said,  “I am excited about being a member of BPW.  It is a great organization.”

Foundation chair Earlene Roden and Vice Chair Rebecca Lovett introduced “Miss Roz Ruby Tebbi Bear” during the Post Board Meeting May 1, 2005.  Miss Roz Ruby is a 30-inch crocheted Tebbi Bear named in honor of our own 2005-2006 BPW/USA President Roslyn Ridgeway. Tickets will be put in drawing for each contribution made to the National Foundation by BPW/GA members or local organizations from July 1, 2005 until the 2006 State Conference.

The drawing will be done during the Awards Presentation at 2006 State Conference. Tickets will be placed in for one (1) for $10 and Three (3) for $25.  So we encourage everyone to make their contributions early to make sure they are posted at National and get as much as possible before the March 31, 2006, deadline for local organization awards to be presented at the State Conference.

We will also have the Tebbi Bear and contribution forms at both of the District Meetings, the State Fall Board Meeting and at State Conference.  But don’t wait, you can contribute on line from the BPW/USA web site or download a form and send it in or there is a contribution form in your president’s Action Manual that can be copied.

Remember every dollar counts, and it will make a difference in the life of a needy women.  One chance for each $10 or three for each $25 goes toward “Miss Roz Ruby.”  You could be the lucky one to take her home with you from the 2006 BPW/GA State Conference.

Orientation - Educating Our Members on BPW

Rosebud McCormick was BPW/GA President 1955-1957 and served as chairman of the steering committee to organize the Cordele Organization in 1937. She was elected as their first President.

After the WWII began in 1941, the club became inactive and the charter was recalled. The group was then reorganized with 41 members in 1947 and Rosebud was elected as 2nd Vice President. She continued at various capacities within the organization through to 1957.

Rosebud was a woman of large status, gray/white hair.  She had a loud booming voice and spoke with authority, despite physical handicaps. She was an avid baseball fan and would travel long distances to see games. While returning home from a game in North Carolina one evening, she and a friend were involved in a car accident, which left her crippled.  She was able to walk with a cane until her last few years and, ultimately, used a wheelchair.
