President-Elect’s Notes
April 2005

This is starting our 2nd year with UPDATES, the NFBPW newsletter. I have received input and comments from some of you but not from all. Please let me know your comments pros and cons. If I don’t know if this is the kind of stuff you want, I can’t change it. President-Elect Peggy Titus-Hall and I have met to talk about how we can improve it, and as you can see, it is now on our Web site.
Peggy and I are planning to attend the State Conference on April 29 and will have more to share in the June UPDATES.
We hope all of you can attend the May 5 Installation Dinner. We have a very capable group of officers to head us next year. Many thanks and best wishes to each of the excellent officers who have just completed a very fulfilling year.

Toni Davis to Install 2005-06 NFBPW Officers, May 5

Toni Davis, Past State President 2001-2002 of BPW/GA, will be installing our new officers at Merlot Restaurant in Duluth on May 5, starting at 6 p.m. Toni is a teacher in Upson County and is a member of the Spalding County BPW.
Toni was also the Legislation/Issue Management Chair BPW/GA and is currently a member of Membership Committee BPW/USA. Toni was instrumental in creating the North Fulton BPW, along with Rita and Skip Gray. She is a phenomenal person and a true friend to all of us. Don't miss this wonderful evening of networking and community. Installation Dinner details can be found on the Web site.

Rita Gray was the lucky winner of the Teddy Bear raffle at the April Meeting for the National Foundation. Take a moment to click the link to learn more about it. NFBPW raised a total of $150 for the Foundation from the raffle. Thanks to everyone who donated. Every dollar counts! A special thanks also to Earlene Roden who made the bear!

Dear Friends and Associates,

Well, we’re off and running! 2004-2005 has been an amazing year for North Fulton BPW, thanks to Carolyn Gathercole, the Board, and the membership. We’ve had exciting and media-worthy programs, added new committees, built a Web site, and taken steps to obtain the recognition we deserve for all our hard work.

This new fiscal year will be no exception. My personal aspirations for us are to:

bullet

Double our membership (at a minimum) by the end of the 2005-2006 year

bullet

Continue our efforts to bring new and exciting programs

bullet

Focus on our political awareness and our impact on the political agendas of our legislators

bullet

Support the development of strong leadership within our organization

Of course, I can’t do this alone. The Board and I will be counting on all of the members to make North Fulton BPW the “go-to” place for quality networking, strong business support, focused political awareness, and the special camaraderie that comes with amazing women doing amazing things!

Look out, World! You'll be hearing from us!

Warmly,

Peg Titus-Hall

Equal Pay Day Event on April 19

Rita Bauer coordinated an event at the K. C. Barbeque Pit in Roswell to host an Unhappy Hour for us to honor Equal Pay Day, April 19, from 5-8 p.m. A table displayed information about Equal Pay Day and BPW. The restaurant agreed to charge men $1and women 76 cents for soft drinks. Click here for pictures and more information. A fun time was had by all! WAY TO GO, RITA!

Member Spotlight - Chris Van de Griend

Chris has twenty-plus years of experience in administration and management for residential mortgage lending and residential real estate. She graduated from Rutgers University in 1985 with a degree in Accounting and was first licensed at the age of 19 as a real estate agent in New Jersey. While working toward her degree, she managed a branch office for a finance company and eventually worked her way into mortgage originations, which she did from 1984 until 2004.
In 1990, Chris moved from New Jersey to East Cobb here in Georgia where she founded a mortgage company in 1991, Lenders Associates Corp. She grew the company from a one-person brokerage firm to a 60-employee mortgage lending company licensed in six states. Chris sold the company to a regional lender in 1999 for whom she worked until 2000. Chris received her Georgia real estate sales license in 2000, and last year she received her Georgia Real Estate brokerage license and founded BetterHomesGA located in Roswell.
Chris is married to Bart Van de Griend, a wonderful Dutchman whom she met dancing in 1997. They have been married for 5 years. Chris has 3 children, Joe who is married and lives in Florida; Ian is a Sophomore at Piedmont College in Demorest, Georgia; and Alexis is a Senior at St. Francis High School in Alpharetta. In her spare time, Chris works on their ongoing renovation of her Roswell home purchased last year. She teaches 5th grade religion at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in East Cobb. Chris Joined NFBPW this year, and we welcome her!
